Mountain Creek Announces Major Snowmaking Upgrade for Winter 2024/25

Mountain Creek has unveiled an ambitious plan to significantly enhance its snowmaking capabilities by introducing top-to-bottom snowmaking automation at Vernon Peak, starting in Spring 2024. This move is set to revolutionize the skiing and snowboarding experience at the resort, promising an earlier season start, rapid terrain expansion, and the highest quality of machine-made snow.

With a $5 million investment, the initial phase of the Vernon Automation Project will focus on equipping Vernon Peak with a state-of-the-art automated snowmaking system. This system will cover key trails including Upper and Lower Horizon, Cab Ride, Sugar Slope, and the Learning Area. The upgrade involves replacing old snowmaking infrastructure with new pipes, hydrants, pump stations, and 40 new energy-efficient fan guns. These improvements are not just about expanding coverage but also about enhancing snow quality and operational efficiency.

The automated system will allow for real-time adjustments to snowmaking operations, leveraging temperature fluctuations to optimize snow production. This technology enables the snow guns to automatically turn on and off, ensuring snow is made whenever conditions permit. Additionally, the system’s online app control will maximize snow production efficiency and snow quality, significantly reducing energy consumption during the process.

Mountain Creek’s commitment to innovation is further highlighted by its snowmaking fun facts, showcasing the resort’s capability to cover 100% of its trails with snowmaking, supported by seven mountaintop lakes. This infrastructure allows the resort to produce up to 3.5 million cubic feet of snow in 24 hours under ideal conditions, enough to cover 80 acres of trail.

The resort anticipates having Phase 1 of the new automated snowmaking system fully operational by November 2024, in time for the winter season. This development marks a significant milestone in Mountain Creek’s history, setting a new standard for snowmaking technology and sustainability in the industry.

Mountain Creek’s initiative reflects its dedication to providing an exceptional winter sports experience while emphasizing environmental responsibility and operational efficiency. As the project progresses, enthusiasts and visitors are encouraged to stay tuned for updates and prepare for an unparalleled winter adventure at Mountain Creek.
